How much does an AI receptionist cost?
Published entry-level paid plans start at $29/month for Dialzara, $49/month for Rosie, $79/month for Goodcall and $150/month for Smith.ai AI Receptionist Pro. Smith.ai also lists a free 25-call tier. SonAIra CX starts at $29.99 per user per month with 10 AI-handled calls included; call packs are additional. These are different products and allowances, not equivalent unlimited services.
A receptionist-only service may fit a business keeping its existing phone system. SonAIra CX combines business communications and an included receptionist, so its subscription is not a standalone answering-service fee.
What does each provider charge?
Table sources: SonAIra, Rosie, Goodcall, Smith.ai AI Receptionist and Dialzara. Monthly billing is used, without annual discounts, taxes or optional add-ons.
| Provider | Plan / price | Included unit | After the allowance |
|---|---|---|---|
| SonAIra CX | Essentials $29.99, Pro $49.99, Advanced $99.99 / user | 10 AI-handled calls/month with each plan; optional call packs | $1.00 to $0.45 per call; confirm pack-specific rate |
| Rosie | Professional $49; Scale $149; Growth $299 | 250 / 1,000 / 2,000 minutes | Excess-minute terms not established in the reviewed pricing text; request confirmation |
| Goodcall | Starter $79; Growth $129; Scale $299 | 100 / 500 / 2,000 unique customers | $0.79 / $0.26 / $0.15 per additional unique customer |
| Smith.ai AI Receptionist | Free $0; Pro starts $150; Enterprise starts $500 | 25 calls free; Pro entry option 75 calls; Enterprise entry option 300 calls | Extra real calls: Free $3; Pro 75-call option $2.50; Enterprise 300-call option $2.17; volume tiers differ |
| Dialzara | Lite $29; Pro $99; Plus $199; Elite $349 | 60 / 220 / 500 / 1,000 minutes | $0.48 / $0.45 / $0.40 / $0.35 per additional minute |
Goodcall defines one unique customer as one phone number counted once in a month. Repeat calls from that number do not add another unique customer. Smith.ai's selectable volume tiers can change the price; do not assume its $150 starting price includes 150 or 300 calls.
What is the real cost per call?
Illustrative workload: 100 or 250 answered calls per month, each lasting three minutes, with a different phone number on every call. That means 300 or 750 minutes, and 100 or 250 unique customers. These examples use the specified plans, not optimization across every tier. All calls are assumed billable under each provider's rules.
| Selected plan | 100 calls / 300 minutes | 250 calls / 750 minutes |
|---|---|---|
| SonAIra Essentials, one seat, + appropriate pack | $78.99 ÷ 100 = $0.7899/call | $128.99 ÷ 250 = $0.51596/call |
| Rosie Scale, 1,000 minutes | $149 ÷ 100 = $1.49/call | $149 ÷ 250 = $0.596/call |
| Goodcall Starter at 100; Growth at 250 | $79 ÷ 100 = $0.79/call | $129 ÷ 250 = $0.516/call |
| Smith.ai Pro, 75-call entry tier | ($150 + 25 × $2.50) ÷ 100 = $2.125/call | ($150 + 175 × $2.50) ÷ 250 = $2.35/call; request higher-volume pricing |
| Dialzara Pro at 100; Plus at 250 | $135.00 ÷ 100 = $1.35/call | $299.00 ÷ 250 = $1.196/call |
How do I calculate my own bill?
- Minute plan: base + max(0, calls × average minutes − included minutes) × overage per minute.
- Call plan: base + max(0, billable calls − included calls) × overage per call.
- Unique-customer plan: base + max(0, distinct billed phone numbers − included customers) × overage per customer.
- Effective cost per call: total monthly bill ÷ actual handled calls. This is not a pack's unit rate.
If 100 calls come from 50 distinct phone numbers, Goodcall's count is 50 customers, not 100. If calls average six minutes, minute consumption doubles. Transfers, spam exclusions, rounding, add-ons and recordings can affect bills; request precise rules.
How do SonAIra call packs work?
| Pack price | AI-handled calls | Pack-only cost per call |
|---|---|---|
| $25.00 | 40 | $25.00 ÷ 40 = $0.6250 |
| $49.00 | 100 | $49.00 ÷ 100 = $0.4900 |
| $99.00 | 250 | $99.00 ÷ 250 = $0.3960 |
| $199.00 | 600 | $199.00 ÷ 600 = $0.3317 |
One AI-handled call uses 100 CX credits. The 100-call example buys a $49 pack plus the $29.99 seat, giving capacity for 110 calls including the 10 free calls. The 250-call example uses a $99 pack, giving capacity for 260. We assume the stated pack is bought that month, without assuming unused-credit rollover.
Only the $1.00 to $0.45 overage range is published; intermediate pack rates are not confirmed here. Confirm call-duration limits, expiry, billable-call definition and overage permission. SMS, outbound Engage usage and payment fees are excluded. See current CX plans.
Which billing model fits my business?
Compare minute plans when call length is predictable; evaluate unique-customer billing when customers call repeatedly; compare call plans when budgeting around answered conversations. Evaluate SonAIra CX when you also need business phones, AI answering, human handoff and connected communications. Do not buy a broader platform solely because one example is cheaper.
Test actual intake questions, urgent-call routing, scheduling and CRM requirements. Request written estimates for the same workload. There is no universally cheapest provider, and this table does not claim reception quality or conversion results.
